Instead of being spooky, this little ghost has a vibrant, patchwork personality that makes it truly unique. In this blog, we’ll explore the book’s themes and share a sewing pattern for a quilt inspired by the little ghost’s colorful journey.

The Ghost Quilt in the book is a blend of blues, cream, and white. Here at The Quilted Bee, we are home of the Buy 5 get 5 free Fat Quarters! The 10 fat quarters is only $20.06. Plus, we also carry the book.

Inspired Quilt Sewing Pattern

To celebrate the themes of this enchanting book, why not create your own quilt inspired by the little ghost? Below, we provide a simple sewing pattern that you can customize with your favorite fabrics, colors, and designs.

Materials Needed

  • Assorted fabric squares (colorful prints for the quilt)

  • Batting (for added warmth and texture)

  • Backing fabric (a larger piece for the back of the quilt)

  • Sewing machine and thread

  • Rotary cutter and cutting mat

  • Iron and ironing board

  • Quilting pins

Instructions

  1. Cut Your Fabric Squares:

    • Cut squares of various fabrics into 5-inch x 5-inch pieces. Aim for a mix of colors and patterns to mimic the patchwork of the little ghost.

    • You also can cut your fat quarters into 6” strips. Sew two together, then cut down. Mix the 12 x 6 blocks to make a patchwork quilt.

    • Note: You can mix up the colors and make a pink version!

  1. Assemble the Quilt Top:

    • Lay out your squares in a grid pattern (e.g., 8 rows of 8 squares).

    • Sew squares together in rows, then join the rows to complete the quilt top.

  2. Prepare the Quilt Sandwich:

    • Lay your backing fabric right side down on a flat surface.

    • Place the batting on top, followed by the quilt top right side up.

    • Smooth out any wrinkles.

  3. Pin and Quilt:

    • Pin the layers together to prevent shifting.

    • Quilt through all layers as desired. You can use straight lines, free-motion quilting, or even hand stitching to add your personal touch.

  4. Bind the Quilt:

    • Cut strips of fabric for binding (2.5 inches wide). Sew the strips together to create a long strip.

    • Attach the binding to the edges of your quilt, folding it over to the back and sewing it down.
